There is probably no hotter are in IT right now than Cloud Computing. The allure of lower costs and higher agility is simply too hard to ignore. However, one can nto have a conversation about Cloud Computing without encountering concerns about security and loss of control by the IT management. It is these concerns that are driving a great deal of interest in private clouds. Unlike public clouds like Amazon Web Services and IBM SmartCloud Enterprise which are sharing resources between all of the customers, private clouds allow IT organizations to create shared resource pools comfortably located behind corporate firewalls protected and managed by the same tried and proven IT procedures and policies that protect all other IT systems and data.

Earlier in March I blogged about IBM WebSphere CloudBurst Appliance. I called it “A Vending machine for IT” and talked how it can be used to deploy DB2 and even complete multi-server IT systems. On June 15, 2011 this vending machine was replaced by a brand new version with a new name. It is now called IBM Workload Deployer (IWD). With the new version came new DB2 capabilities. We are running a free webinar to talk about deploying DB2 on to private clouds and we will focus on IBM Workload Deployer and the new capabilities it offers for DB2 customers. The webinar is tomorrow (June 29, 2011) between 12:30pm-2:00pm Eastern. Please register at Even if you can’t attend live webinar, you will be able to follow a replay at your leisure when it is available.
