Give DB2 on the Cloud a try

It is hard to believe but it has been a year since we first made DB2 available on the Amazon EC2 cloud. In Cloud Computing this is an eternity. It has been quite the ride. As I look back at the success that DB2 has enjoyed on the Amazon EC2 cloud I am amazed as just wrong the critics were when we first started. Of all of the Amazon Machine Images (AMIs) that IBM has made available DB2 is the the one that people purchase the most. As a matter of fact, more than all of the other products combined. [...]

The keynote speaker today was Dr. Werner Vogels is Vice President & Chief Technology Officer at Amazon.com. With nearly half a million customers, Amazon Web Services is the most recognizable name when it comes to Cloud Computing. Amazon, it seems overnight, has morphed itself from a web retailer in to a key provider of IT infrastructure. So, it is no surprise that the keynote was well [...]

On Cloud Computing, XML, DB2 and an iPod Touch

Last week IDUG, the International DB2 User Group announced its sponsorship of “The XML Challenge”, a world wide contest for both professional and aspiring (students) programmers. I don’t want to rehash all of the things about the contest here. Just go to the contest website and read about it. There are several ways to participate. You can record a YouTube like video hopefully of doing something productive with XML and DB2 and not just playing with a bottle of Coke and some Menthos.

You can submit a gadget. There is no strict definition of what a gadget is. In other words, [...]
