It is almost that time of the year when IBM Information Management customers and partners head to las Vegas to attend IBM IOD conference. Over the years it has become a very popular destination with record attendance and lots of really great sessions. I’ve presented at the IOD every year for as long as I can remember and this year will be no exception. I’d love to connect with the readers of this blog. So, if you are going, seek me out, come to one of the sessions or just drop by and say hello.
On Sunday I will be presenting PST-3914B Cloud Computing, Big Data, and Growth Initiatives. I am taking this session over from Rav Ahuja. Rav is a great champion of business partner causes on our team. Unfortunately, Rav will not be able to make it to IOD this year so it will be up to me to talk about the opportunities big data and cloud computing present to our partners. And there is lots to talk about and lots to learn.
I will be presenting 3496A Put IBM DB2 on the Cloud – Any CloudI have presented on this topic before but the world of cloud changes so fast it will be hard to recognize the content you may have already seen. Besides, I promise to work on a new repertoire of jokes. So, clear up your calendar for Monday, Oct 22, 2012 2:15 PM – 3:15 PM and register for this session. Location is Islander G – Mandalay Bay North Convention Center.
This year I will also be participating in something called a Tweet-Up (4232A Tweet-Up: It’s a Big Data World! What Skills Will You Need?). I’ve been tweeting for many years but have never done a Tweet-Up. The subject of this tweetup will be Big Data. I will be doing this with a couple of very distinguished gentlemen, Jim Kobielus, and Alex Philp. Jim is a former industry analyst who has recently joined IBM and is a prolific blogger on the subject of big data. Dr. Alex Philp is a founder and CTO of TerraEchos a supper innovative provider of big data solutions. He is also a professor at the University of Montana. A humbling company. I think I will be doing my best impression of the “We’re not Worthy!!!!” scene from Wayne’s World. Here is a clip of what you can look forward to:
On a more serious note, Tweet-Up promises to be a great event. It is on Mon, Oct 22, 2012 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM at the
Think Big Social Lounge (EXPO) – Mandalay Bay South Convention Center.
Another thing I am also doing on Monday is our book signing (4237B Warp Speed, Time Travel, Big Data, and more: DB2 10 for Linux, Unix and Window New Features). This one will be held at the Book Store – Bayside Foyer – Mandalay Bay South Convention Center. You get a free book signed by the authors (my signature is instantly recognizable as the most illegible).
I will also be presenting with Nati Shalom, CTO & Founder of GigaSpaces (4251A The Elephant in the Cloud: Bring True Cloud Economics to InfoSphere BigInsights) at the IBM Business Partner EXPO Theater on Wed, Oct 24, 2012 2:30 PM – 3:00 PM
After this session I will be making a mad dash to the Islander G – Mandalay Bay North Convention Center to present one of my favorite topics 3047A Big Data for IBM DB2 Professionals. This session is on Wednesday, Oct 24, at 3:45 PM – 4:45 PM. If you are a DB2 pro and were wondering what all the fuss around big data, hadoop etc. is all about you are going to want to attend this session. You will not hear hear any marketing fluff … just the things you really need to know to get on top of these technologies.
Last but not least. We are going to have a pedestal on the Expo floor to talk about community development we are doing around big data. We will be featuring Big Data University and the newly formed IBM Big Data User Group. So, as you are exploring the expo hall, stop at the pedestal to learn how to get involved in the community. I don’t know the actual pedestal number yet but I will update this blog post when I find out.
Hope to see everyone at the IOD.
