This week we were at Lotusphere 2010 demonstrating DB2 Express-C for Lotus Foundations. One of the giveaways we had was a free book on DB2 Express-C. The book proved top be very popular and we ran out very quickly. I also got a lot of questions from people who did not have an opportunity to go to Lotusphere if there was a way to get a copy of the book. My answer is “absolutely, as long as you don’t mind getting it in an electronic form”. A real paper book that you can flip through is always nice but in this day and age when we are all trying to be a little greener, an e-book is a great alternative.
First, a little about the book. It is called Getting Started with DB2 Express-C 9.7. It is 301 pages written by the experts on our DB2 Express-C team: Raul Chong, Rav Ahuja and Ian Hakes. This is the third edition of this book and it is wildly, or should I say virally, popular. We have distributed over hundred thousand copies of the book. If you were ever connected to the publishing world you will know that this is a very impressive number. The book has 3 parts that take you all the way from learning the basics about DB2 Express-C to getting a hang of the ongoing administration tasks to learning how to build applications that utilize the power of DB2. It is written in a very easy to read language with lots of illustrations and screen shots. Oh, and did I mention it is FREE :-).
Third edition of the book is available in English only but the second edition is available in 9 languages:
